The Season of Change

Version 3
The trees changing color in the front garden.

Fall is the season of change, what with the leaves changing their colors, then falling to the ground and then the temperatures changing as winter approaches. I’ve been working on making some changes myself over these past few weeks. For months now it’s been all about the marketing – the marketing of my book, my paintings, my website. But guess what – my actual painting itself has been suffering, sad to say. Yes, I have been guilty of neglecting that which is dear to me and a step away is just what I needed in order to start making a shift.

Having recently returned from a glorious trip to Jamaica with my husband, where I celebrated my 50th in true island style (thanks to my wonderful sisters and their families), I brought back home with me just the right amount of recharge in my batteries to say: “Let’s clear the way for some new activity!” After all, painting is my core and one of my great loves. So, those sketches that I was working on in the summer are now part of my springboard to jump back into the pool of creativity.

Even as I write this blog that is long overdue, I am also working on one of the very images for the paintings that I am planning to paint. It’s fun going through these various steps and it feels like I’m in my happy place again.

What’s interesting to me is I think that the time that was spent away in Jamaica gave me the opportunity to find the space where I could see where I was missing this important element in my life. Now I can choose to take a hold of it once again and I am very happy that I am able to do that. Remember, never let yourself get too far from your happy place.
