Soft Book Launch at the Jamaican Embassy in Washington D.C.

Soft book launch 1
Juliet Thorburn presenting a giclee print of St. Andrew Parish Church to Ambassador Thomas

It’s a good thing that we had been planning this soft book launch event for a while now as it ended up having to come together rather quickly. Tuesday April 26 was to be the day. I drove down to D.C. just after midday and made it safely to my cousin Rochelle’s beautiful apartment in the city at around 3:30pm where we talked a bit, got ready and then left for the Jamaican Embassy early that evening.

Once we got there, we set everything up and the guests began to arrive shortly afterwards. The evening commenced and what a lovely evening it was! There were so many expectant faces standing tall and proud in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the evening. Everyone there was clearly very sad to see this Ambassador, Mr. Ralph Thomas leave office so soon and this was evident from the words that were spoken about him. They were truly a testament to his character and his dedication. I felt so fortunate to have been chosen as his special guest that evening and to have been given this opportunity to present my Jamaican coffee table book – A Watercolour Tribute To Historic Jamaican Churches at this event.

After the speeches and my presentation to Ambassador Thomas of a limited edition giclee print of St. Andrew Parish Church, I began signing and selling my coffee table books. They were well received and seemed to generate great excitement and interest amongst the guests. That was so encouraging to me and I enjoyed meeting so many fellow Jamaicans!

I must add that the Ambassador has a lovely family and once again the combination of the farewell speeches and the soft book launch made for a truly memorable evening in fine Jamaican style.
